A Mountain of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season

The winter break present a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to not snapping at loved ones. It is wished you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy developments emerged over the break, and if you missed any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop the series' continuation. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
