A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
