Former British Soldier Charged of Murdering Kenyan Female Shows Up in Courtroom

An individual has appeared in court as deportation processes began in the case of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan national, a female from Kenya who was found dead near a British forces camp in 2012.

The accused Robert Purkiss, thirty-eight, who is originally from Greater Manchester region, appeared before Westminster magistrates court on the last Friday, and told the court he planned to fight the extradition request. Sources suggest that he was taken into custody on the evening of Thursday.

A warrant for arrest for Purkiss was authorized by a Nairobi court in the month of September. The state attorneys informed the Kenyan judiciary that Purkiss had been facing a one count, of killing, and that the Kenyan authorities would seek his extradition to answer to accusations.

The defendant previously worked as a army medic with the regiment of the Duke of Lancaster, the army unit for the north-west of England, including on missions to Afghanistan.

Agnes Wanjiru, 21, a hairdresser who had a young daughter, vanished after a night on the town, and her remains was located after two months in the premises of the hotel where she had previously spotted.

No one had before been taken into custody or indicted in association with her demise. His detention followed a recent detective probe, which followed a exposé in the year 2021 by a weekly publication, in which the media outlet approached several serving and ex-military personnel in the regiment.

The probe has been led by Kenyan detectives, which, under a bilateral security treaty, maintains prosecutorial power in the legal case.
