Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
