Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year following instigating insulting songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs about Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the former England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker and the Manager
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All appears has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Challenges
