Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Issues and Player Response

The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
